Peter was born and raised in Central Ontario and calls Toronto his home base where he runs his business under the label van Walraven Goudsmid. Rocks and gemstones are his passion, as he has always been captivated by earth and space. This fascination grew as he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree majoring in Geology from Laurentian University in 2011 and graduating with distinction. Peter was also born with an artist’s eye and drawing and design were second nature to him.
Where art and stone began to fuse into a career was through his next phase of learning. He went on to earn his Gemmology Diploma graduating with distinction and became a Fellow of the Canadian Gemmology Association (FCGmA) through the Canadian Gemmological Association’s professional gemmology program in 2016. He then proceeded to earn his Jewellery and Metals Diploma from Georgian College, with honours, and his grad work won the title “Best in Show” in the 2019 Goldsmithing and Silversmithing Graduate Certification final exhibition through Georgian College. Since graduating Peter has won other jewellery designer awards such as 1st place in the Annual Canadian Gemmological Association Award for emerging artists.
