My love for making jewellery came out of many years of sculpting in clay. I’ve always enjoyed sculpting in small scale but was never quite satisfied with the material I worked with. I longed for something more durable. I eventually discovered Art Clay Silver and Precious Metal Clay and soon decided to expand my horizons by taking classes to learn how to make sterling silver and gold jewellery. I was officially hooked!
My jewellery is hand carved out of wax and then cast in sterling silver. These pieces are then completed to a beautiful satin finish or to a mirror-like polish. Sometimes an oxidation technique is used at the end of the process to darken the sterling silver and help bring out the sculptural details. Other embellishments are added too, such as feathers, objects from nature and gemstones.
I have also begun to explore working with 3D modeling, making bright, colourful and lightweight jewellery using nylon. Although the process may be futuristic, my designs maintain a relatable sensibility.
